Umberto Boccioni - Caricature of a Futurist Serata

huh? the mortal what?

The phrase "the mortal leap" is taken from F. T. Marinetti's 1909 Founding and Manifesto of Futurism.

but what does it mean?

Like most of Marinetti's writing, "the mortal leap" is ambiguous, and hyperbolic. It can mean anything, and nothing. For me, for this blog, it refers to the courageous leap across the chasms between looking, thinking and writing about this delightful, amorphous, multifaceted phenomenon we refer to as art. A little bit observation, a little bit discovery, maybe a few creations of my own. Come on, let's be as brave (and insane) as Marinetti et al, and make the mortal leap from brain to internet and back again.
